Chemists: Open 0900–1300/1500–1900 Monday to Friday & 0900–1300 Saturday a notice on the door will tell you the nearest chemist open outside these hours.
Banks: Open 0830–1500 Mondays to Fridays closed Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, take your passport with you. Cash machines available near market in Lagoa for changing foreign banknotes – open 24 hours.
Shops: Open 0900–1300/1500–1900 Monday to Friday, 0900-1300 Saturday Modelo Shopping Centre in Portimão is open until 2200 in Summer. NB. Many shops stay open later in summer.
Post Office: Open 0900–1800 Monday to Friday.
Postage Rates: EC letters and postcards €0.57 each.
Telephones: The post office has booths for making telephone calls and charges at the end of your call. Many bars and restaurants will permit you to make calls on a metered system. In the summer Telecom Portugal have a caravan in Carvoeiro for telephone calls. You can also use public telephone boxes. To dial directly to the UK use prefix 0044, and remember to remove the first ‘0’ from the UK number you are dialling.
